Nuclear Decommissioning Authority

Reiach & Hall Architects

Category: Commercial — Contractor: Morrison Construction — Year of completion: 2017

Project Value: £21m

The new Nuclear Decommissioning Authority archives facility in Wick was fitted out by WorkSpace, working alongside Reiach & Hall and Morrison Construction. More than 70 years’ worth of information and up to 30 million digital records are to be stored at Nucleus in Wick, Caithness. They include papers, photographs and plans from nearby Dounreay, as well as Harwell in Oxfordshire, Trawsfynydd in Snowdonia and Sellafield in Cumbria. Nucleus will also store local archives dating back to the 16th Century.

In this remote location, we supplied and installed a wide variety of FF&E items such as high gloss feature walls, tea points, window blinds, glass cabinets, timber ventilation units and a reception counter.

In November 2018, Nucleus beat strong competition to win the coveted Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award.
